Sometimes the adventure of an elopement doesn't come until after the ceremony is over, and that's perfectly ok! Especially when it's January, you're not sure how to weather will be, and you don't want your family to have to trek to a ceremony location in the cold.
Many people opt for a back-yard wedding at home or at an Airbnb. In this case, they chose Alexa's sister's home, which was perfect for the occasion with its gorgeous stone fireplace, decorated beautifully with winter greens, white roses, pine cones, and burning candles. One little white rose was also placed atop the fireplace to signify that Alexa's mother who had passed was present with them on that day. Green fleece blankets were placed on each chair to help their guests stay warm and a cute little hot cocoa bar was made for all to enjoy after the ceremony! I even loved the #CooneysnotCooties station, complete with sanitizer and hand-made face masks!
I love a unique wedding dress, especially when there's color involved! Alexa's dress from Needle & Thread (@needleandthreadlondon) hit the mark for me, with its floral embellishments and open back (check out the leather jacket later too!). Her flats paired perfectly with the outfit too!
Bundled under their blankets, their family watched on as they became husband and wife, exchanged ring and kisses, then waved to important people who couldn't be there. After some photos, everyone toasted to the newlyweds and popped confetti in celebration before we went off on our little adventure for photos afterward.
I had so much fun hanging out with these two and their loved ones! 2021 is going to be another year of back-yard wedding celebrations and adventure elopements, and honestly, I hope they never go away! I love getting to see my couples so happy, especially because they get to be more present with one another and their stress levels are about 90% less on their wedding day. Cheers to that!
Congratulations again, Alexa & JD!
